Philosophy: The Arvada West High School community, believing in
the highest educational values, strives to provide students with the skills
needed to think critically and interact responsibly in a diverse and
changing world, and to develop and deliver curriculum an
Learning Environment: Teaching methods include team teaching,
ability grouping, small-group instruction, individual and independent study,
and tutoring; humanities taught by teacher teams
Special Education: SIED, PC, and SLIC programs; nurse, social
worker, and speech specialist on staff

and Russian
Art/Music/Drama: Academic classes in theater arts are enhanced by
all-school productions including one full-scale musical produced by the

Honors and AP Classes: AP and honors English, U.S. history,
chemistry, physics, biology, calculus, and urban and physical geography
Special Programs: The humanities program provides an outlet for
intellectually creative students to experience cross-disciplinary
relationships. This program combines the history and English curriculums
into a unified course that includes the study of philosophy, art, a
Guidance/Counseling: Sixteen juniors participate in a Big
Brother/Big Sister training program. In their senior year each is assigned
one period a day in the counseling center to work with new students and

Athletics: About 40% participate in athletics. Arvada West has
won the Fred Steinmark Trophy for 8 years out of 16. The award goes to the
Jefferson County high school with the best all-round athletic program.
