How to Use this Site

The data and information available on this site are detailed and complex. This "how-to" section provides instructions and tips on how best to search the databases to locate the detailed school information you desire. We strongly recommend reading through this entire page prior to conducting searches.

The search pages use a combination of the following options:

  • Checkboxes:
Checkbox
  • Drop-down lists:
Drop-down list
  • Keyword search text boxes:
Text box

You may use any combination of these options - none of the fields on any of the search pages are required, so you can use any number of fields you'd like from none (which will list all the schools available) to all. The more search fields you use, the more specific the search will be resulting in fewer schools listed. If there are no schools that match your criteria, the following message will be displayed:

There are no schools that match your criteria.
Please modify your search request and try again.

Checkboxes

Checkboxes allow for multiple selections of related information such as "types of programs", etc. Simply click any combination of checkboxes (or leave unchecked if the subject to be searched is not a requirement for your search) you desire. Checkboxes can be unchecked by clicking them again.

Drop-Down Lists

A Drop-down list allows the selection of a single-specific criteria to be added to your search. Drop-down lists display only the current options available preventing searches on criteria that are known not to exist in the database. Simply click the drop-down arrow to the right of the list then click on the option you desire.

Keyword Search Text Boxes

Keyword text boxes differ from typical text boxes in that they do not require any specific word for a valid search. Portions of a word or even multiple words can be used in these text boxes. Do not use punctuation characters such as quotes (") or apostrophes (') in text box searches - using these characters will result in a search error or return no results.

For Example: To search for a school located in Denver, you could:

  • Insert "Denver" in the City field:

Or,

  • Insert "Den" in the City field:

Both would yield results that would list Denver as the city, but the search for "Den" would also list any other city that had "Den" in the name such as Golden. Text boxes are not case-sensitive. If you're not 100% confident in the spelling of a city, for example, we recommend only inserting the portion of the name you are most confident about such as only inserting "West" for a search for schools in "Westminster".

A zip code search would be similar. For example, a search for schools by zip code would be accomplished by:

  • Inserting the full 5-digit code such as "80215"

Or,

  • Inserting just "802"

Inserting the full 5-digit zip code "80215" would yield only schools with "80215" in its address, but inserting "802" would yield schools with any zip code beginning with "802" such as 80227, 80218, 80215, etc.

Tips and Suggestions

  • Several cities and towns within the Denver Metro do not have their own public school district. For example, the City of Centennial (a newly formed city located in the southern metro area) does not have its own school district. Public schools in Centennial are serviced by the Cherry Creek and Littleton Public School Districts. And, there is only one school in the Centennial area that has an actual Centennial address - all others have an Aurora, Littleton, or Englewood address. So, a search for schools in the Centennial area by entering Centennial in the city field would not yield good (if any) results. Therefore, if you're not finding any or few schools for a given city, we recommend you search by zip code (a map of cities, school districts and vicinity zip codes can be found by clicking the "Maps - zip, district, etc." link at the top left of the page or by clicking here).
  • The keyword text search fields for School Name, City and Zip are available to provide the most flexibility for members to search for schools. Perhaps you've heard of a particular school in the Denver Metro area and want to locate information on it regardless of where it's located - use the School Name field to find it and leave the City and Zip fields empty. Note: using more than one of these fields at a time may yield no results since the database will only list schools where all field entries you've inserted match. For example, if you conduct a search for St. Mary's Academy by inserting the school in the School name field AND enter Denver in the City field, the school would not be listed since St. Mary's Academy's address is in Englewood.
